The Common Behaviors of Bearded Dragon You Must Know

Aside from the fact that bearded dragons are animals, they are loved by many people because of its unique behavior – they are sociable and friendly. They are unique creatures despite the fact that they are bred in captivity. If you give your chance to have one for a pet, you will be amazed with its behavior. A bearded dragon would be a fantastic addition to your family. They are the ideal pet and are very trusting. You and your children will surely adore them.

Bearded dragons, also known as beardies, are social animals. They communicate by gestures. Some of their unique gestures include arm waving, tail curbing, head bobbing and beard inflating. If you see them doing this, it means that they are communicating to you and other animals. Here are some of their unique behaviors.

Arm Waving

Arm waving signals dominance among beardies. It raises its forehand and waves while standing on the other hand and its hind legs. For females, arm waving signals rejection during courtship. Some females are also choosy when it comes to males – some decided based on the color while others decide based on the beard.

Tail Curbing

If beardies curb their tails, this means that they are alert and active especially in the presence of their enemy or their owner. They tend to bend their tail towards their head and body. This is a sign of good behavior especially if your pet is doing it as this is a sign that they are healthy and functioning physically.

Head Bobbing

This unique behavior is only observed in male dragons. It is a sign that they are the king of their race and this action proves their masculinity. This is usually shown when they are aggressive and during the mating season. Some female dragons also show this unique behavior but not most of the time since they know how to control their emotions.

Beard Inflating

This behavior is the most common among beardies. If you notice that their beard, which is actually located in the neck area, start to expand, then this means they are aggressive. This inflation is accompanied by their by their mouth opened as their beard expands. Aggressiveness can also mean anger.

The behaviors mentioned above are common in bearded dragons. Bearded dragons also love to explore. One thing that makes it fun as a pet is that if you bob your head towards them, they bob right back. They love to communicate not only to you but also to other animals. It is recommended that even if they live in captivity, they should still be in an interactive environment so they will be able to maintain their social characteristics. If they are not placed in an interactive environment, they tend to be difficult to breed with female beardies as they will be aggressive.

Every second counts in your beardie’s life. This will pave a way for them to fully mature and understand that the world has other creatures that they can interact with. Bearded dragons are unique creatures that need to be provided with nourishment and proper care.
